A little about me

Hi, I'm Gloria! I live in beautiful Vancouver, BC, where I love exploring the outdoors, running, and capturing moments through photos and videos.

I am deeply interested in psychology, storytelling, product thinking, and business strategy. I'm driven by a desire to create intuitive and impactful products that simplify life and deliver tangible value to businesses

I thrive in fast-paced environments, excel in teamwork, enjoy tackling complex problems, and am comfortable wearing multiple hats to get the job done.

My Stories

A lifelong passion for continuous iteration

Growing up as an only child, I had my own room. Every so often, I would rearrange the furniture—not because I get tired of things easily (just look at the jacket I’ve been wearing since university or my Nikon DSLR from the 2000s), but because I felt that as I grew, my needs changed, and so should the layout of my room. And if something didn't work out, I'd change it until it did (my mom was very impressed that a 10-year-old could move her heavy bed across the room all by herself). This mindset has followed me into my professional life. At work, I am an advocate for the build-measure-learn approach and continuous improvement mindset. I believe products must evolve to meet changing user needs, business goals, market demands, and technological advancements, and my designs should always adapt and improve.

Grow alongside the product

In 2015, I left my first full-time job as a UX/UI designer at a design agency after two years. Let me explain, while I enjoyed the challenges of working on diverse client projects and thrived in a fast-paced, small team where I wore many hats, what I disliked was shipping a project and never getting to work on it again—It felt like birthing a baby and never seeing them grow. This feeling was particularly strong when we launched a 0 to 1 comprehensive platform, I was proud of the initial launch but disappointed that I couldn't continue iterating on it post-launch, as I had to move on to the next project. This led me to transition from the agency world to working at product companies for the past 8 years. I genuinely find great joy in witnessing the growth of products and growing alongside them.

Experiences over things

I embrace minimalism in life. It pains me to see good things go to waste, so I hold onto possessions for as long as possible. And when I do need to replace something, I opt for second-hand items to give them a new life. However, when it comes to experiences, I don't hesitate to spend money. I believe that life is about living fully #YOLO. If you have any new experience suggestions, whether it's trying a unique restaurant, learning a new skill, or participating in a hackathon, count me in.

Eye of a videographer

At 14, I quietly assumed the role of videographer at my uncle's wedding. I secretly captured the entire event with my digital camera and spent nights editing it into a film. Instead of showing it right away, I waited until their 10th anniversary to present the video as a gift. Their joy upon watching it was unforgettable. To me, it was magical to relive that special moment with them. I enjoy documenting memories for my family and friends. At a company Halloween party, you'd find me volunteering to take photos and make videos. When we're out for adventures with the kiddo and doggie, I'm the one capturing the entire experience and editing it into a short film.
